Debate Competition
Debate is discussion on a particular topic between two parties, who keep forward their views which are opposite to each other. It has always been a place where students can compete with each other to test their knowledge and speaking skills.
On 22nd March 2018, the Etsa committee organised a Debate Competition named 'Samvaad', where students from all departments were invited. The event was organized under the guidance of Mrs. Apeksha Chavan, ETSA coordinator. It was judged by Prof. Darshana Pachkawade from the Humanities department and Prof. Anup Vanage from the EXTC department .The event turned out to be a huge success among students and teachers alike. A total of 16 students participated in the event. The competition was conducted in a manner of 4 rounds. The first round had 16 participants who were divided into groups of two . Though a team concept , the participants were actually evaluated individually .Participants were evaluated on basis of proper illustrations, use of rebuttal, body language and paralanguage. The participants had a total of 5 minutes for debate with a preparatory time of 3 minutes prior to the start of the round. The second round had 8 participants and this time they debated on a 1 vs.1 basis. The third round saw four students from the previous round compete for the place in the finals. The final round was made to be a 6 minute round which was eventually extended a bit more so that the clear and elaborate views of the finalists came to the fore completely . The topic of discussion for the final round was- "Which is a better investment- Gold or Bitcoin". In the end Rahul Pillai(BE-MECH) was declared the winner with Shravan Raikar(SE-MECH) missing out by a little margin to come in second. The final round was followed by the prize distribution ceremony in the presence of Dr.Avinash Vaidya , HOD of EXTC Department and Prof. R.H. Khade, HOD of Electronics Department. In the end the finalists were asked to share their experience and their mantra which they follow to speak so well in public. The event was conducted without any hindrance and was appreciated by everyone.
