Debate Competition
Debate is discussion on a particular topic between two parties, who keep forward their views which are opposite to each other. It has always been a place where students can compete with each other to test their knowledge and speaking skills.
ETSA-PCE organized an event called SAMVAAD 2019 on 23 rd of March 2019 for the students of Pillai’s College of Engineering, Pillai’s College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Pillai’s College of Architecture and Pillai’s College of Management. The event was conducted for the students of all the fields and departments. The event was organized with prior permission of the Principal, Dr. Sandeep Joshi, HOD of EXTC, Dr. Avinash Vaidya, the ETSA Coordinator, Prof. Apeksha Chavan. The publicity drive took place in the whole campus of the Pillai's College.
The SAMVAAD 2019 was a debate competition and had total 14 participants. There were total 4 rounds the first round, the second round, the semi finals and the finals. The event was judged by Prof. Jayashree Bhosale, Prof. Darshana Pachkawade, Prof. Leena Potdar. Round 1: The first round had total 7 debate rounds each of 3 mins. The participants were marked individually according to their communication skills, use of argument, use of examples and presentation style. Round 2: The second round had 8 participants qualified from the previous round. The time duration of this debate round was increased to 5 mins to make it more interesting for the audience and the judges. Semi Finals: The semifinals had only 4 participants qualified, they performed in pairs for the semifinals in which one team was supposed to speak for the topic and the other team was supposed to speak against the topic. All the participants were marked individually and only two of them qualified for the finals. Finals: The finals was a tough fight between the top two contenders, they were Paresh Bawane and Shravan Raikar. It was a intensed and a hitted up debate between the two of them. Paresh emerged as the winner whereas Shravan was the runner up.
Conclusion: The event ended with Paresh Bawane emerging as the winner whereas Shravan Raikar was the runner up. They were felicitated with a appreciation certificate and a cash prize by our HOD of EXTC, Dr. Avinash Vaidya. The other students were also given certificates for participation. The judges were then thanked for judging and maintaining the enthusiasm in our students and were felicitated by Prof. Apeksha Chavan. The event ended by 6.00 pm with a thanks giving speech by Disha Sengar.
